The size of the South African Stokvel market is estimated at R44 billion, with 830 000 clubs and 11 million members. The UMS Stokvel Programme is a custom-built, targeted and comprehensive initiative that enables suppliers to build their relationships with Stokvel club members. UMS provides excellent opportunities for suppliers to build community relationships through specialised events and targeted communications.
The UMS Stokvel Programme ensures that suppliers are able to build relationships with thousands of stokvel club members that shop at Powertrade, Food Town and Best Buy stores. This programme is designed to stimulate interaction between suppliers and stokvels, with a variety of platforms through which suppliers can communicate the benefits of their brands.
- Educational advertising in the UMS Stokvel magazine, which is distributed free to 30 000 stokvel clubs via UMS member stores.
- Targeted stokvel promotions that are implemented at a Divisional level.
- Stokvel trade fairs that provide an opportunity for suppliers to showcase and present their products to stokvel clubs.
- Stokvel parties at store level, where suppliers are able to interact with individuals, highlighting their brands and new product launches.
